Star Watch: Peter Christiansen vs Harry Kane
Peter Christiansen — Viking FK
The 26-year-old forward is Viking's main attacking threat. Christiansen has scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists in 21 Eliteserien games this season and is desperate to open his Champions League account. His pace on the counter will be Viking's best weapon against Bayern's high defensive line.
- 2026 Eliteserien goals: 12
- Assists: 6
- Key trait: sharp movement in the box, clinical on the break
Harry Kane — Bayern Munich
Kane scored against Bodø/Glimt to make it eight Champions League games in a row with a goal — only the fourth player ever to achieve that feat, after Lewandowski, Ronaldo, and Van Nistelrooy. The England captain already has 36 Bundesliga goals this season and remains the most complete striker in Europe.
- UCL scoring streak: 8 consecutive games
- Key trait: elite link-up play, lethal finishing from any angle
Matchup Analysis: Can Viking Shock the Bavarians?
Viking's Home Fortress
Viking sit top of the Eliteserien with 53 points from 22 games and have won their last six home matches, scoring 20 goals. The Lyse Arena will be at full capacity for the club's first-ever Champions League home game.
However, the Norwegian champions have lost 11 of their 13 matches in European Cup/Champions League history — a concerning record against elite opposition. They are also without Sondre Bjørshol, Martin Roseth, Anders Bærtelsen, and Nicholas D'Agostino through injury.
Bayern's Norwegian Dominance
Bayern are unbeaten in 9 previous meetings with Norwegian clubs (W7 D2, 30 goals scored). They have scored in each of their last 22 Champions League fixtures, netting 62 goals in total.
The only question mark is in goal: Manuel Neuer may be rested due to concerns over the artificial pitch at Lyse Arena, with Jonas Urbig potentially stepping in. Konrad Laimer also missed the Augsburg trip with a back issue.
Key Stat
Viking have won just 1 of 13 European Cup/Champions League matches (W1 D1 L11) — the second-worst defeat rate of any team with 10+ games in the competition.
Prediction: Viking FK 1-3 Bayern Munich — the home crowd will make it lively early, but Bayern's firepower should prove decisive.
